Multi Browser
for mIRC

Map Picture Installation Guide

NOTE: If you are running version 1.41 or later the Autoupdate will work fine. When upgrading from a version earlier 1.41 you need to download the full version of Multi Browser from this website. If you try to autoupdate it will not work and Multi Browser will stop working correctly. Follow the instruction in the readme.txt to install Multi Browser. Instructions for installing to mIRC Power Pack are inscluded in the readme. If you did do the autoupdate you can download the Autoupdate_Fix and unzip it to your mIRC folder, MPP users download the MPP_Autoupdate_fix and unzip it to your MPP folder.

Multi Browser is a Mirc script that I put together to be able to browse for servers from inside mIRC. It browses for Quake 4, Call of Duty 2, Doom 3, Quake 2, QuakeWorld, Quake 3 Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Soldier of Fortune II, Jedi Knight II, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Half Life, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Battlefield 1942, Jedi Academy, Call of Duty, Quake 2, and QuakeWorld servers. You must have mIRC 6.03 or better to run this script. Go to www.mirc.com if you need to get mIRC. If you need an earlier version of the script that only requires mIRC 6 or better then go to the bottom of the page and get v1.20.

Servers can be added to your saved list by simply doubleclicking on an IP in an IRC channel. This even works for server IPs listed with Unreal:// before the IP.

The script is very configurable and will mark you away when you connect to a server, report which server you connected to, and respond when keywords are typed in a channel so others can follow you to the server you are on.

It will talk to the games Master Server to get a list of online servers for Quake 4, Call of Duty 2, Doom 3, Quake 3 Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Solder of Fortune 2, Jedi Knight 2, Half Life, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Wolfensyein: Enemy Territory, Call of Duty, Quake 2, and QuakeWorld.

From what my research it appears that the Medal of Honor and Battlefield 1942 master servers are handled by GameSpy. This means that I am not able to retrieve a list from them since GameSpy does not allow public access to their master servers. If someone has different information please email it to me. I have added Master Server list retrieval from a web hosted location, so all the games are able to get a master server list now. You gan enter your own URL for the master server list.

Half Life Pics

NOTE: Unzip the script to your mIRC folder. After you have unzipped the script there will be more folders. Unzip the Pictures to the mIRC\multi\pics folder.

Here are some pictures of what Multi Browser looks like. (pics are of v1.42)
Click on the picture for a full size view and a more detailed description of the tab.

The browser will put a little picture of the map that is being played on the browse tab when you refresh a server, if it is in the pics folder. Get the picture files on this site and unzip them to the multi\pics folder in your mIRC directory.

You can search through the servers you have saved by assigning any combination of the available search parameters. You can enter in parameters that are not already preset and you can search for a full or partial name. If you enter "Q3" (no quotes) in the Player Name slot it will find any one who has "Q3" in their name and diplay the server.

The Remote Console works for all the servers the browser works for. So enjoy you ease of server administration.

You can request a list of servers from the Master Server for Quake 3 Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and Half Life. I plan on adding the other games as well. I need the master server URLs and Ports though.

There are all kinds of setting here so you can have the browser do what you want it to and nothing more. There are a lot of settings pages, but go through it once and you will rarely have to come back to it.

There are over 500 map pictures, mostly Quake 3 Arena in the Q3 Engine Pics file, and over 250 pics for Half Life, mostly the CounterStrike mod maps. If you have a map picture that I don't have in this zip file please email it to me at multi_browser@multibrowser.org so I can add it to the available downloads.

Map Picture Installation

Instaling pictures of maps to be displayed by Multi Browser is pretty easy.

1) First you need to get a picture of the map. Take a screenshot or use a picture you obtained elsewhere. I have supplied some pictures here, but mainly for Quake 3 and some for Half Life.

2) Once you have the picture you should edit it, but you are not required to, so you can make it easily viewable in the browser. The browser uses the picture size of 130 by 97 pixels, it will reduce the size of a picture to make it fit if it is larger than the used size.

3) Once you have the picture to the state you want to use it you just need to copy the picture to the 'pics' folder inside the multi folder. For example: If your mIRC folder was c:\mIRC then your pics folder would be c:\mIRC\multi\pics. Make sure the filename is exactly what the mapname is and is saved in JPEG format. So if you saved the picture for a map called 'clifs' the file would need to be named clifs.jpg and saved in the right folder for it to be displayed when that map is being played on the server you refreshed. Call of Duty map pictures are the execption. Everything is the same as for any other game's pictures except the map pictures need to have 'cod_' before the picture name. For example: if the map is called mp_harbor you would name the map picture 'cod_mp_harbor.jpg'.

If you have any pictures you would like to see posted on this web site for download please email them to me with the map names. EMAIL

If you want a version of the browser that only requires mIRC 6 or above to run get the one below. It does not talk to the master server and rarely triggers the bug in mIRC 6 thru 6.02 that causes it to crash.
